Datuk Bandar Datuk Mohamad Rafiai Moktar has confirmed he will be retiring on Thursday.The Ipoh City mayor said he did not expect his service to be extended since he had not made any application for extension.
He told reporters this Tuesday after opening the council's new exhibition gallery at the tourist information centre near Ipoh Padang here.
The 57-year-old had prior to this been evasive over whether he would continue to serve as mayor.
He had said that he had yet to receive an official letter from the state government on whether he would be retained.
However, Mohamad Rafiai, who has served in the position for two years, had said he was willing to serve if asked.
