Showcasing Ipoh’s history - The Star

Jun 4, 2008

THE Ipoh City Council’s tourist information centre should be opened on weekends and public holidays to accommodate the needs of tourists.

Datuk Bandar Datuk Mohamad Rafiai Moktar said the centre should ideally be opened during such times when there were more tourists visiting the city.

“Its present operation hours are 8am to 5pm, Mondays to Fridays.

“However, not that many tourists come to visit during weekdays,” he told reporters after opening the council’s new exhibition gallery at the centre near Ipoh Padang yester-day.

Ipoh Datuk Bandar Datuk Mohamad Rafiai signing a plaque to mark the opening of the Ipoh city council's exhibition gallery in the Perak Tourist Information Centre.

He said efforts were being made to modify the centre’s operating hours.

The newly unveiled gallery houses a mini audio-visual room and an exhibition of old photographs of the city, providing tourists with a glimpse of Ipoh’s olden days.

“We are working on expanding the gallery to tell the full history of the city.

“But to do that, we need help from the public.

“We want them to provide us with old photographs and documents,” said Mohamad Rafiai.
