Four companies were fined RM1.1million for indiscriminately putting up illegal telecommunication towers in the state.
Perak Education, Local Government, Housing and Public Transport Committee chairman Nga Kor Ming said the four companies had been slapped with a RM3,000 fine for each of the 366 illegal towers put up.
“Whether the towers will be torn down will depend on a study to be carried out by a special team,” he told reporters after the state executive council meeting yesterday.
He also said the pulling down of the telecommunication towers would depend on the suitability of the location and the people’s safety.
“We do not want to inconvenience the people if a tower is torn down,” he added.
He also warned telecommunication companies not to erect towers indiscriminately as approval must be obtained from the state first.
