A RM5 million animation production centre will be built in Meru Raya by the end of November.
Perak Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin said the centre would produce 156 episodes of 2-D animation films for the Middle East and European markets.
The first phase of the project, jointly carried out by KPerak INC Corporation, Perak State Development Corporation (PSDC) and Spacetoon International, will require between 120 and 200 animators.
Nizar was speaking after presenting certificates to 63 SPIKE@KPerak and 28 KPerak Infomediaries graduates, who had undergone a three-month training course to increase their marketability and employment chances.
Also present were Perak State Secretary Datuk Abdul Rahman Hashim, Skali Group president Aimi Aizal Nasha- ruddin and KPerak INC Corporation chief executive officer Datuk Yaacob Nordin.
Nizar said a local company, In-Fushion Solutions Sdn Bhd-GO Academy, with the cooperation of KPerak INC, was also planning to set up a 3-D animation production centre at the Perak Techno-Trade Centre in Meru Raya.
The company, which has vast experience producing 3-D and Modelling animation films for the overseas market, had obtained contracts from the United States, Hong Kong, South Korea, Taiwan and India.
"The first phase of the project is expected to begin in November and will offer employment to between 20 and 50 animators."
Meanwhile, Aimi Aizal said unemployed graduates lacked soft skills like the ability to communicate effectively, self- confidence, a sense of direction and self-esteem.
"There is also a mismatch of skills provided by the universities with the demands of industries."
