Stay calm, Nizar tells Pakatan supporters - Star

Feb 8, 2008 By SA’ODAH ELIAS

IPOH: Datuk Seri Mohd Nizar Jamaluddin has called on all Pakatan Rakyat supporters to refrain from getting involved in “provocative or illegal” activities.

He said all efforts and activities designed to regain Pakatan its power in the state must peaceful and confined to what was allowed by the law.

“We are law-abiding people and we are living in civil society. We are not fighting against anyone.

“We just want to fight through the ballot box,” he said in a press conference at the state DAP headquarters after a short and peaceful demonstration by DAP Youth in front of the state secretariat building on Sunday.

Repeating the call for the state assembly to be dissolved so that a snap election could be held, Nizar said that was the only way to restore the lost democracy in Perak.

He said that unless this was done, the people’s trust in the royal institution and the state constitution would be eroded.

At the same time, he said, Pakatan Rakyat leaders were keeping their fingers crossed that the court would declare the new Barisan Nasional state government illegal.

Nizar was supposed to file an application to get the High Court to declare the swearing-in of Datuk Dr Zambry Abd Kadir as Mentri Besar on Friday as illegal and unconstitutional.

The press conference and the demonstration earlier were also attended by several Pakatan Rakyat state representatives and Members of Parliament from outside Perak.

These included Jelutong MP Jeff Ooi, DAP Youth chief Anthony Loke Siew Fook who is also Rasah MP, Teratai assemblyman in Selangor Jenice Lee Ying Ha and Komtar assemblyman Ng Wei Aik.
