Sultan of Perak orders MB to withdraw transfer - The Sun

KUALA LUMPUR (May 02, 2008): By Sajahan Abdul Waheed

The Regent of Perak, Raja Dr Nazrin Shah, on the instruction of the Sultan of Perak, has directed Menteri Besar Datuk Seri Dr Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin, to immediately withdraw the 24-hour transfer of State Religious Department director Datuk Jamry Sury.

This was stated in a fax issued by the Sultan of Perak's private secretary Kol. Datuk Abd Rahim Mohamad Nor today.

It said the Regent had sought explanation from Nizar at 11am today at the Istana Raja Muda Perak Daruk Ridzuan regarding Nizar's instruction on Wednesday, giving Jamry 24 hours to vacate his post. However, Nizar has been silent on the reason for removing Jamal. Neither has Jamal made any public statement regarding the matter.

"Nizar was informed that Jamry's appointment was made with the consent of Sultan of Perak. Matters relating to Islamic affairs and related agencies is under the jurisdiction of the Sultan. The Sultan wants the transfer to be withdrawn immediately.

"If there is any misconduct by Jamry, then the State Government should officially inform the Sultan and the Regent before any decision is made.

"It is the responsibility of the Menteri Besar to meet the Sultan and the Regent and obtain their consent before taking any action on any matters relating to Islamic issues and related agencies, including on appointment and transfer of officers involved in the State Religious Department, especially those who are holding high positions."

The statement also said it has been a culture and normal practice for the Menteri Besar to respect the Sultan and the Regent.

"The Regent wishes to remind that such relationship should be respected at all times in order to create mutual understanding. Any action or move taken without the consent of the Sultan and the Regent could be seen as move going against them."
