Keep to your word, MB urged - The Star

IRATE bus operators and traders at the defunct Medan Kidd bus terminal in Ipoh have reminded the new Perak Mentri Besar of his promise to look into their grouses.

The group submitted a memorandum seeking the reopening of the terminal to Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin at his office on Wednesday.

Medan Kidd bus terminal became defunct in 2004 after it was relocated to Medan Gopeng following complaints that the area was too congested.

Since then, bus operators and traders had been crying foul over the move, citing problems like their badly affected businesses and the difficulty for passengers to find transport to the new terminal.

Worried: Sarguna (left) and former PKR candidate for Chenderiang M.S. Arjunan (second right) showing the memorandum.

“After Nizar was elected, he promised he would help us solve our problems.

“We hope this memorandum will remind him of that promise and he will act immediately,” bus operator B. Sarguna said.

Sarguna, who represented the group of four express bus operators and some 30 traders, said they wanted the Perak government to allow the terminal to function again.

“We are not requesting for the closure of the bus terminal in Medan Gopeng. We just hope that the Medan Kidd bus terminal can be used again for the convenience of the people.

“At least there can be two functioning bus terminals,” he said.

He added that Medan Kidd was at a convenient location since it was right opposite the city bus station on Jalan Tun Abdul Razak.

“At least the residents living around Manjoi, Silibin, Menglembu and Jalan Kuala Kangsar will not have problems commuting to the ex-press bus terminal,” he said.

Sarguna also said that since the terminal was closed, many traders selling food and drinks at the terminal had gone out of business.

“Many of those operating there are single mothers. Their livelihoods have been badly affected over the past four years,” he said.
