SHOPKEEPERS in Taman Kota Jaya in Taiping, Perak, are unhappy that the drain in front of their shops is clogged with garbage.
U. Rajoo said contractors appointed by the Taiping Municipal Council should go there regularly and not every six months.
“Mosquitoes are breeding there,” he said.
Another shopkeeper, C. Shanmugam who is also Kampung Dew Barat Rukun Tetangga chairman said the council should assert its authority on the contractors as they were not doing their job.
Shanmugam, whose shop had been partially converted into an RT patrol base said residents had expected better services from the council-appointed contractors.
“Whenever residents and shopkeepers are late paying their assessment fees, they get into trouble with the council but when the contractors tasked with cleaning drains are not discharging their duties accordingly, we have to bear the consequences,” he added.
Council secretary Shahrom Datuk Abdul Malek, when contacted, said he would look into the matter .
