May 12, 2008

THE Persatuan Wanita Cina Perak is in a lurch as it has not received RM140,000 pledged by various parties including RM50,000 from Perak Barisan Nasional.

Its assistant secretary Leong Yeat Ho said the monies were pledged in January during the opening of the association’s new building on Jalan Toh Puan Chah.

Former Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohamad Tajol Rosli, when officiating the building then, had promised RM30,000 from the state government and RM50,000 from Perak Barisan.

His wife Datin Seri Kamariah Mokri, as the then head of the Perak Assemblymen’s Wives Association (Baiduri), had further pledged RM20,000.

Former state assembly deputy speaker Datuk Yik Phooi Hong and former state executive councillor Datuk Tan Chin Meng each pledged to contribute RM20,000.

Leong said the association bought and renovated the building for a total of RM420,000of which RM340,000 was borrowed from a bank and the association’s committee members.

“But till today, we have not received a single sen of the RM140,000 which we really need to repay our debts. We are short of money each month,” she said.

Leong, together with Batu Gajah MP Fong Po Kuan, had earlier met Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Mohammad Nizar Jamaluddin to get his help to obtain the money.
